To Err is Ice..!

To err is human. But my friends say ‘To err is ice’. If I compile a list of all the blunders I have committed, the moderators will probably block my id for spamming the forum. So I will stop with 4. I was in 6th. It was half yearly exam. I was preparing for History desperately trying to remember who did what when and why when my friend dashed into my house. “Ice, can I borrow your history notes? I will take a copy and give back tomorrow” Did I hear her correctly? “If you take my notes how will I prepare?” Now it was her turn to stare. “Aren’t you studying Tamil?” I was at total loss of words. What actually happened was, while taking note of the exam time table, I skipped Language II and copied the next exam History. From then on, till my 12th, my mom never failed to cross-check with my friends.  But unfortunately the same incident repeated when I was in my 7th. The best (or rather worst) part was none of my friends came to my house, so I studied for biology exam and went to my scho...

Thanks to HIM!

I was packing all my clothes in a hurry-burry. My friend will be leaving in 5 minutes. OMG! Why am I always so late? My mom was like “When will you ever learn punctuality?” My dad was like “Ice, if you want I will drop you” I turned a deaf ear to both, mumbled “Bye pa…Bye ma” and dashed out. Both of us reached the station in half an hour, all the while chatting and gossiping. All our class mates had come before we reached. Our train started in 10 minutes. Within the next few minutes, our entire coach was in chaos. Some one was like “Did you see my blue bag?” Some one else was like “Who ever took my coolers, please give it back!” Our co passengers were looking at us with utter disbelief. Some one was shouting at his wife “I told you we should book the night train.” One more was saying “These day students are worse, within few minutes they have changed the train to a fish market!” Our sir was the most depressed. He was a junior and all the staff turned him down saying he is the best to l...

Chinese Fried Rice - Version 2

Beware!! I am a total amateur at cooking. And if you visited this blog thinking it is a new recipe, I pity you. Really!!! I am a terrible cook. Actually, I don’t even know A, B, C, in cooking. The only thing I can do confidently without guidance is to boil water. Now you know what a great cook I am, right? So, one fine day, I decided to test my cooking abilities. I declared that I was going to cook Chinese Fried Rice; not Sambar, not Rasam, but Fried Rice. I mean, wasn't that too much for someone who was just going to try cooking? My dad threw an exasperated look and escaped saying he had some urgent client meeting that he just remembered. Poor mom, she could not come up with any convincing excuses, as well as she did not want to leave the kitchen all alone to someone like me, so reluctantly accepted. So where do you think I would have started? Of course, our very own IndusLadies. I opened up IL site and browsed through Chitvish’s forums and found the desired recipe. My tongue star...

Crush... But Not Crush..!

I was thinking for a long time about my next blog (other than the TFA series). Got a couple of topics, but was too lazy to pen them down. And then I came across two posts in the snippets forum about Crushes. My memory took me back to my school and college days. Oh wow, what a feeling that was, to get just one glance of your crush. The first time your heart starts fluttering and you realize you are not a child any more, but a girl. Those memories I cherish a lot. But no, I am not going to disclose my crushes in this open forum. May be some other time. But I want to share something that happened in college, something for which I cried then, but now it sounds so silly and funny. I used to go by bus to college and there was this girl, let us call her Priya, from some other department and was very close to me. Initial days were very nice, always laughing and giggling for silly matters. And then, one fine day she announced she had a crush on one of our seniors, let us call him Bhaskar. Oh Go...

Me and Android!

Well, I had just got my new Sony Xperia Ray, my first Android mobile. For the first few days, I almost spoke about only my mobile to everyone, the most vulnerable victim being my mom. She had to endure my ear bleeding sessions of Xperia this and Xperia that. In addition to that, she saw that I almost walked, ate and slept with my Xperia. Fed up, she finally commented that she only remembered the proverb “kurangu kaila kudutha poo maalai” (garland in a monkey’s hand) whenever (and that was all the time) she saw me with my mobile :hide: Now that I have my mobile, I should try all the new applications that came along, shouldn’t I? I saw this amazing feature (rather, a lazy one, my mom insisted) that I no longer had to type the messages. I just had to speak the messages, and my mobile would sense it for me. How convenient? :thumbsup So, the first FaceBook chat that I had with one of my friends went as follows: My friend: "Hi Ice" I held the mike closer to me and say “Hi, How are ...

A Facebook Love Story!

Image
'Everything happens for a reason' Its one of my favorite dialog from a famous English TV series. But we don't understand the depth of certain phrases unless it happens to us :coffee January 2010: I am with my bestest of best friends, chit-chatting about everything under the Sun. Topic of my marriage comes in. She asks, 'Whatever happened to your marriage plans?'. I reply, 'Same! I will NEVER marry. I am happy with the way my life goes'. She knows me too well not to argue. She gives me this knowing smile and says 'Lets see!' June 2011: It is one of those boring days @ office. I browse through facebook. One of my friends had liked a post from a page, and is listed in my news feed. The page name grabs my attention and by some instinct I 'like' the page. Its a page started in the name of a famous dialog by a Tamil comedian actor. I start receiving updates from that page, I see people chat-chatting, sharing a good friendship. Believe me when I tel...

The stalker!

Image
Have you ever had a stalker follow you everywhere, I mean like really EVERYWHERE!? No, I am definitely not talking about my husband! Ever since I got promoted from girl friend to wife, I notice subtle differences, OK, I mean prominent differences like, when girl friend had more weightage than any gadget, TV show, movie or any other thing in the World, wife has the least preference. Wait, what am I doing? Probably I should save my rantings for some other blog, or most probably I may never write one. Guess why? I have now got my new love stalking me everywhere and loving me to bits, unconditionally! Well, some of you may have already guessed who I am talking about. Its none other than my new German shepherd 'dog' (this is is the first and last time I am ever referring to him like that, just to be clear). I should have probably named him Shadow, cos that is what exactly he is to me. But we call him 'Chico'. Its a spanish word for 'boy'. Just a month back when I wen...

Me and Ghosts..!

I do NOT believe in ghosts. As a matter of fact, I do not believe in anything that does not have a scientific explanation. But of course, that does not include God. My relationship with Him is entirely different. Let us save it for a different blog. Coming back to the point, what am I going to say if I don't believe in ghosts? Read on to know. I have tried all kind of weird stuff, just to check if ghosts exist. In one Tamil movie, they showed that if we say Poochi (insect in Tamil) thrice before a mirror, ghost will appear in front of us. I tried it once (with the doors opened, just in case), but only found my face staring back at me. One of my friends said that if you go to the backyard alone in the night, ghosts will pat your back (as if they dont have better work to do). I tried it once, only to find a snake crawl and I never repeated it. Sometimes after watching some horror movie alone late in the night, I would shout like 'If you really exist come NOW'. But no, they ne...

Sight Regained...!!

Soda Butti...Yeah that is the one word I hated during my school days. I kind of never concentrated on my physique until college. So my specs were selected by my parents, the last persons that one should approach regarding style and fashion. They had selected the specs with the biggest frame. Their argument was that I could see with much more clarity with bigger frame specs. Once in college, I started giving more importance to my dressing style. And the first thing I had to change was my specs. My cousin is an opthamologist. He came to my rescue with his brilliant idea. Contact Lenses. Without a second thought, I bought one for myself. Easily said than done, I did make a lot of tantrum. I was supposed to hold my eyes from closing and my cousin was supposed to put the lens inside my eyes. I made sure my cousin, dad and mom were next to me, along with a phone (in case of any emergency). With great deal of coaxing from my cousin, finally I allowed him to touch my eyes. It was just a second...
